How should you split the budget?
The graphics card decides your frame rate, so it takes the largest share — around 40% of the total. The processor needs to be good enough not to hold the card back, which for gaming means a current Core i5 or Ryzen 5 rather than the most expensive chip available.
Memory, storage, motherboard and power supply take the rest. The most common mistake is overspending on the processor and leaving too little for the graphics card.
Do not economise on the power supply
The power supply is the one component whose failure can damage everything connected to it. Buy from an established brand with an 80 Plus rating and leave headroom above your calculated draw.
A cheap unrated unit is the single most common cause of unexplained instability in budget builds.
Memory and storage
16GB is the standard for gaming; 32GB helps if you stream or edit alongside playing. Buy a matched two-stick kit rather than a single module so the memory runs in dual channel.
Use an NVMe SSD as the boot drive. Modern games load noticeably faster from NVMe, and several occupy over 100GB each, so 1TB is a sensible floor.
Cooling and the case
A well-ventilated case with a couple of intake and exhaust fans does more for temperatures than an expensive cooler in a sealed box. Airflow first, then cooler.
The stock cooler is adequate for a mid-range processor. Invest in an aftermarket cooler only if you are choosing a high-end chip or want a quieter machine.
